The Broadcasting and Hosting Arts major belongs to the undergraduate program of Theater and Film Studies under the category of Arts. Based on the socio-economic development needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and adapting to the development of media convergence, the major aims to cultivate applied talents for the broadcasting, film and television, and media industries in a variety of media environments. It advocates the cross-integration of artistic disciplines, media disciplines, and new media technology, integrating the content of the spoken communication discipline system across majors. It strives to cultivate high-quality applied talents in the field of public communication, such as integrated media radio and television program hosts, voice actors for film and television dramas, who possess professional basic theories and skills in broadcasting, editing, hosting, and performing. These talents have a high level of political consciousness, theoretical cultivation, and artistic appreciation, are familiar with China's news, propaganda policies, and regulations, and are able to undertake broadcasting, hosting, directing, planning, performing, and post-production work for radio and television, online audio-visual, and entertainment programs. They can find employment in the publicity departments of various enterprises and institutions, radio and television stations at all levels, or in popular industries such as drama, film and television, media, advertising, and online media. They can also participate in media-related projects, industry-related activities, and apply their professional skills to fully integrate with the media industry in sectors such as radio and television directing, film and television photography and production, online e-commerce platforms, and brand services.


Training Objectives

This major primarily targets Guangdong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, aiming to cultivate individuals who are comprehensively developed in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor aspects. They should possess homeland emotions, a healthy personality, an international perspective, craftsmanship spirit, and innovation ability. They should master the basic theories and professional skills of Broadcasting and Hosting Arts, possess abilities in radio and television program broadcasting and hosting, new media program hosting and planning, drama and film performance, and planning and creative abilities. They should have a high level of political consciousness, theoretical cultivation, and artistic appreciation, be familiar with China's news and propaganda policies and regulations, and possess compound qualities in "gathering, editing, performing, and broadcasting." They are expected to be professional and applied talents.

Professional ethics: Possess correct political awareness and positive moral character. Love the country, support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, care about social issues and national development, possess a sense of social responsibility, and actively participate in social practice. Understand national conditions, social conditions, and people's lives, practice socialist core values, and become good media practitioners who provide fair, objective, and true information and programs for the audience.

Subject knowledge abilities: Solidly grasp the basic theories, techniques, and operational methods of Broadcasting and Hosting Arts. Be familiar with various media equipment and tools, systematically master the expression rules and creative techniques of radio and television language communication, and be able to use these equipment and tools for program production and hosting. Be able to independently complete the "broadcasting, gathering, and editing" of programs according to frontline requirements. Understand the development trends and cutting-edge dynamics of the radio and television industry and the new media industry, master digital media technology and new media communication knowledge, and be able to adapt to changes and developments in the media industry.

Application abilities: Possess good language expression and strong language communication abilities, able to establish good communication and interaction with the audience, be good at listening to the opinions and suggestions of the audience, and communicate with them in a calm and friendly manner. Have good interpersonal relationship maintenance and management abilities, able to apply professional knowledge and skills to professional roles.

Innovation abilities: Possess innovative thinking and creativity in broadcasting creation and program hosting. Able to independently think, analyze problems, and propose novel viewpoints and ideas. Able to explore the uniqueness of programs during the production process, bringing new ideas and methods to program hosting and production, improving program quality and host appeal.

Information abilities: Have strong abilities to collect and process information using digital technology; possess strong computer application abilities, able to proficiently use common office software and audio-visual production software such as PR and AU; able to use information technology to solve practical problems in the professional field.

Communication and expression abilities: Have strong communication and expression abilities, able to use accurate and standardized language and writing to logically express opinions, effectively communicate with the public, and possess certain promotional and oral communication abilities.

Teamwork abilities: Possess good teamwork and leadership abilities. Have strong planning, organization, coordination, and management abilities. Able to effectively collaborate with the team to complete program production and hosting work, promoting team cohesion and collaboration efficiency. Possess certain leadership abilities, able to lead the team when needed and promote the smooth progress of work.

Able to understand and respect differences between different cultures, improve communication abilities with international media and audiences, pay attention to international affairs and the development of international media, expand opportunities for international cooperation, and contribute to the dissemination of Chinese culture.

On-campus concentrated practical teaching: Basic Voice Practice, Audio Broadcasting and Program Hosting Practice, Impromptu Oral Expression Training, Television Program Planning and Creation Practice.

Enterprise practical teaching projects: Online self-study extension module courses, professional ethics education, regional, industry, enterprise research (choose one of three), professional (production) internships, graduation internships, and graduation theses.


Teaching Conditions


Teaching equipment

The major possesses advanced and complete experimental and teaching equipment for radio broadcasting, television hosting, program broadcasting, stage performance, costume, makeup, and props, voice training, body training, photography and videography, audio recording and dubbing, audio and video editing, etc., with a total equipment value of approximately 50 million yuan. This equipment can well meet the needs of teaching, experimentation, research, and extracurricular practice.


Laboratories

The major has constructed professional laboratories such as a professional studio, news studio, audiovisual studio, recording studio, grand theater, makeup and styling room, costume display room, stage design room, film and television studio, audio laboratory, film and television post-production editing laboratory, performance classroom, dance classroom, rehearsal hall, etc., covering a total area of 8,000 square meters.


Practice bases

The major has accumulated rich social resources and established good cooperative relationships with many well-known artistic troupes, film and television media institutions, or enterprises in the province, including Hengdian Film and Television City, Universal Pictures, Guangdong Provincial Theater, Guangzhou Theater, Hunan Satellite TV, Guangdong Radio and Television, Guangzhou Radio and Television, Shenzhen Radio and Television, Shenzhen Poly Theater, Dongguan Cultural Center, and others. These collaborations have established off-campus internship and employment bases, providing students with guarantees for their internships and employment.


Employment Prospects

This major aims to cultivate compound media talents for Guangdong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, who are competent in news broadcasting, program hosting, journalism, editing and packaging, and other work roles. They can adapt to traditional media such as radio and television as well as new media platforms, finding employment in the publicity departments of various enterprises and institutions, radio and television stations at all levels, film and television companies, media companies, advertising companies, online multimedia companies, MCN agencies, and other popular cultural industries. They can also engage in individual entrepreneurship in film, television, and advertising platforms.


Faculty

The faculty team of the Broadcasting and Hosting Arts major currently consists of 19 full-time teachers, including 2 doctoral candidates, 13 lecturers, and 6 teaching assistants. Over 95% of the teachers hold master's degrees or above, and 6 teachers have overseas study experiences. The professional backgrounds of the full-time teachers cover Broadcasting and Hosting Arts, Theater and Film Studies, Broadcasting and Television Studies, Journalism and Communication Studies. Additionally, the major invites renowned domestic professors and industry experts to serve as professional mentors. The teaching staff has a reasonable structure in terms of professional titles, age, and academic qualifications, combining full-time and part-time teachers, possessing high academic standards and rich teaching experience. At the same time, part-time teachers and frontline mentors bring practical teaching experience, fully meeting the teaching needs in terms of quality.
