Arts and Technology is an emerging comprehensive major belonging to the undergraduate program of Design Studies under the category of Arts. Training Objectives

This major primarily targets the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, aiming to cultivate individuals who are comprehensively developed in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor aspects, possessing homeland emotions, a healthy personality, an international perspective, craftsmanship spirit, and innovation ability. They should master the basic theories and professional skills of Arts and Technology, possess certain artistic creativity, technological implementation abilities, interdisciplinary collaboration abilities, and good comprehensive qualities. They should be proficient in techniques such as digital visual creativity, virtual reality, and intelligent product design, possessing strong capabilities in digital cultural creativity and implementation, digital lifestyle design, and digital creative arts and realization. They are expected to engage in digital interaction, digital entertainment, digital media, digital intelligence ecology, digital health, digital fashion, and other fields in the digital creative industry, digital lifestyle industry, and digital creative service industry.

Subject knowledge abilities: Systematically master the basic knowledge and principles of Arts and Technology, including graphic design fundamentals, basic principles of visual design, and the intersection of art design with modern social politics, culture, and economy. Possess certain design practice abilities, able to proficiently use design tools in the major and express visually using various visual languages. Understand the basic knowledge of art design history and theory, as well as the history, current status, and frontiers of the major and related disciplines, and possess the ability to integrate traditional culture with modern design.

Application abilities: Possess cross-domain integration abilities in arts and technology, able to comprehensively utilize relevant knowledge and technologies in the digital creative industry, digital lifestyle industry, and digital creative service industry. Familiar with the application skills of related software and tools such as digital media production, interaction design, and user experience design, possessing the ability to create and realize digital content. Master methods for artistic expression, cultural dissemination, and creative services using digital platforms, enhancing user interaction experience through digital art and technology intervention. Have research abilities in digital media trends, consumer behavior analysis, and technological application, able to plan and implement innovative projects based on market demands.

Innovation abilities: Possess strong innovative spirits, entrepreneurship awareness, and certain independent entrepreneurship abilities. Familiar with innovative design using art design knowledge and skills and AI-related machine learning algorithms. Possess the ability to apply these technologies to interactive displays, product, and digital media design. Able to conduct in-depth market research on the needs of the digital creative industry, digital lifestyle industry, and digital creative service industry, develop innovative design projects, and conduct forward-looking design based on corporate and social needs. Possess the ability to integrate artistic vision and technological functions, developing innovative artistic works and technological solutions that meet market trends and user needs. Master the entire process from concept verification to product realization, ensuring that innovative designs can be effectively implemented and create commercial and social value.

Information abilities: Possess strong computer application abilities, able to proficiently use common office software and professional software for art design, and conduct business related to the major through the internet. Have strong language and writing expression, information collection and processing abilities, master a foreign language, and possess strong reading, translation, and certain oral communication abilities. Have the ability to obtain information and new knowledge through language and writing, and possess the ability to retrieve literature and query data to obtain professional information at home and abroad.

Dual degree learning mode with mutual credit recognition between China and Australia

Leveraging the regional advantages and high degree of internationalization and openness of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, students in this major can choose the "2+2" or "3+1.5" dual degree learning mode with mutual credit recognition between China and Australia. After studying for 2 years or 3 years at their home institution, they can choose to study for the remaining 2 years or 1.5 years at Edith Cowan University in Australia, obtaining dual bachelor's degrees from both institutions.

Relying on our school's overall design plan for building a "digitalized" and "intelligent" campus, the Arts and Technology major possesses advanced and complete teaching equipment and facilities, satisfying students' needs for classroom learning and extracurricular practice.

The Arts and Technology major boasts a comprehensive Arts and Technology Laboratory Center, including digital design laboratories, hand-drawn expression technique rooms, packaging and printing laboratories, photography studios, film and television studios, digital creative studios, computer-aided design rooms, art design project studios, art studios, course design rooms, and art design interactive laboratories. Additionally, it features an art exhibition hall spanning 1,450 square meters, including areas for exhibition announcements, Chinese calligraphy and painting art exhibitions, multimedia art exhibitions, and innovative future art galleries. These well-equipped facilities can fully meet the teaching needs of all experimental courses in the Arts and Technology major.

Faculty Team

The Arts and Technology major currently has 6 full-time teachers, including 1 professor, 1 associate professor, 1 lecturer, and 3 teaching assistants. Among them, 2 hold doctoral degrees and 4 hold master's degrees, with several teachers graduating from overseas institutions. The full-time teachers possess professional backgrounds in areas such as industrial design, environmental design, visual communication design, and digital media arts. They possess disciplinary backgrounds related to design science, fine arts, communication science, art studies, computer science and technology. Additionally, the major invites renowned domestic professors and industry experts to serve as mentors, establishing an interdisciplinary mentor team with optimized structure, strong practical abilities, and high professional standards.
