Major Overview
The civil engineering major focuses on the construction of various engineering facilities above, below, and in water, including the application of digital smart construction technology, BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology, integrated building technology, integrated smart building management, new building materials, and equipment. The fields of practice include housing construction engineering, highway and urban road engineering, railway engineering, bridge engineering, tunnel engineering, airport engineering, underground engineering, water supply and drainage engineering, and port and dock engineering.

Civil engineering is an ordinary yet great major. It is ordinary because it is everywhere around us - every wall, road, and window. It is great because it plans, draws, and connects every village, town, and city, ultimately forming our great country. Civil engineering is an eternal major that will continue to flourish along with human progress.


Training Objectives
This major is primarily aimed at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region, focusing on cultivating individuals who are comprehensively developed in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education. These individuals should possess a sense of patriotism, healthy personality, international vision, craftsmanship spirit, and a high degree of social adaptability, making them popular among industries and enterprises. The goal is to nurture innovative talents with applied skills in intelligent construction technology.

Graduates of this program will master the fundamental theories and professional skills of civil engineering, demonstrating strong abilities in structural analysis, construction technology and management, engineering economic analysis, digital smart construction technology, integrated building technology, and BIM 3D building technology.

They will be able to work in fields such as civil engineering design, construction, management, new technology research and application, and engineering supervision, taking on roles like structural designer, construction engineer, engineering management engineer, and engineering supervisor.


Major Features of Civil Engineering
This major aligns with the industries in the Greater Bay Area, following the OBE (Outcome-Based Education) concept of "student-centeredness, output orientation, and continuous improvement." The curriculum system and talent training program are designed to closely match industrial demands, featuring collaborative training between the government, schools, and enterprises.

(1) Three Green Ecologies:

a. Government support, top-tier assistance, and platform integration to create a green ecology for lightweight integrated prefabricated building disciplines.

b. Construction of a green ecology for the architectural professional cluster.

c. Establishment of a green ecology for the civil engineering curriculum knowledge chain.

(2) Three First-Class Aspects:

a. First-class discipline construction, focusing on the development of lightweight integrated building discipline.

b. First-class technology, exploring advanced technologies in lightweight integrated buildings and digital intelligence.

c. First-class service, providing comprehensive support to students and the industry.

The program boasts 10 teaching and research platforms that offer excellent teaching conditions with strong faculty, well-equipped teaching facilities, and a superior teaching environment. These platforms include:

Additionally, the program features specialized laboratories such as a virtual simulation teaching laboratory, structural engineering laboratory, material engineering laboratory, 3D printing laboratory, green building laboratory, BIM new technology laboratory, surveying laboratory, light steel integrated structure laboratory, and building cognition robot laboratory, as well as 10 smart classrooms.

The civil engineering major adopts a collaborative education model between schools and enterprises, with 52 external professional internship bases, including 3 provincial external internship bases for college students and 30 collaborative education demonstration bases between schools and enterprises.


Employment Prospects
Graduates of this major can pursue careers in various fields such as engineering design, engineering construction, engineering management, new technology research and application, and engineering supervision in construction companies, design institutes, research institutes, property management companies, real estate companies, government administrative departments, schools, and other units. They can work as structural designers, engineering construction engineers, engineering management engineers, and engineering supervisors. Graduates can also choose to further their studies by pursuing postgraduate degrees or studying abroad, taking the civil service examination, or obtaining professional certificates such as registered architect, BIM engineer, and registered cost engineer. The annual employment rate of graduates is over 90%.


Faculty Team
The program has formed a faculty team with professors and doctors as the core. Currently, there are 35 professional teachers, 90% of whom hold doctoral or master's degrees, 82% have dual professional qualifications, and 61% possess national registration qualifications. The teachers have won more than 20 awards in various competitions at home and abroad. These teachers provide students with rich professional knowledge and impart the latest theories and practical knowledge during their academic journey.

The program boasts a team of teachers who master the latest digital smart construction theories and application technologies, providing students with an innovative and pioneering learning environment. This allows students to unleash their innovative consciousness, cultivate craftsmanship and practical abilities, and become high-quality, comprehensive, and innovative talents welcomed by industries and enterprises, with a certain level of new technology and international perspective.
