Major Overview

Landscape Architecture is a discipline that belongs to the category of engineering but also carries strong artistic characteristics. As global environmental issues become increasingly prominent, and under the background of ecological civilization construction deepening from a basic national policy to institutionalization, the influence of Landscape Architecture is gradually emerging. The demand for talents in this field is very high, indicating a broad development prospect.

Our Landscape Architecture major emphasizes sustainable development and cultural inheritance among students, highlighting the cultivation of skills such as landscape design, project management, garden plant landscaping, and computer-aided design. The goal is to cultivate professional and applied talents for the production, construction, management, and service frontlines that meet the economic and social development needs of Guangdong Province. The major focuses on serving local urban and rural construction undertakings, systematically mastering the basic knowledge of landscape architecture, theories and methods of historical culture and modern urban and rural landscape architecture, familiarizing with the basic design principles and techniques of planning, architecture, urban design, and landscape, understanding other disciplines related to landscape architecture, and cultivating high-quality applied talents with a solid foundation in landscape architecture-related professional abilities, strong professional practical skills, and innovation and entrepreneurship abilities.

Training Objectives

This major is mainly targeted at the Pearl River Delta region, aiming to cultivate individuals who are comprehensively developed in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor aspects. These individuals should possess a sense of national identity, healthy personality, international perspective, craftsmanship spirit, and innovation ability. They should master the basic theories and professional skills of Landscape Architecture, possess certain landscape design thinking, project management, and garden construction abilities, as well as good comprehensive qualities. They should be proficient in skills such as landscape planning and design, landscape scheme design, construction drawing design, greening design, and project management. Additionally, they should have strong abilities in team collaboration, communication and expression, analysis and evaluation, and project implementation. These individuals can work in fields such as landscape design, urban and rural planning, architectural design, landscape engineering management, greening design and construction, environmental protection, and related enterprises and government departments. They can engage in positions such as planning and design, landscape design, planting design, landscape maintenance and renovation, and garden construction management.

Characteristics of Landscape Architecture

This major aligns with the industries in the Greater Bay Area, following the OBE (Outcome-Based Education) concept of "student-centeredness, output orientation, and continuous improvement." It constructs a talent training program and curriculum system closely aligned with industrial needs, with collaborative training between government, schools, and enterprises.

a. Integrated learning across disciplines: Landscape Architecture shares teaching and scientific research resources with Urban and Rural Planning and Architecture. The teaching systems of Landscape Architecture's planning and design, as well as engineering and technology, complement each other, broadening students' knowledge and applied skills.

b. Innovation led by applied education: Teaching philosophies, systems, and plans closely follow national development trends and are promptly updated and introduced into teaching and scientific research.

c. Employment services meeting national needs: The school assists graduates in finding employment in design institutes, enterprises, government agencies, and other units, engaging in fields such as landscape and garden design, urban and rural construction, ecological utilization, tourism development, and other construction and management areas.

Teaching Conditions

The Landscape Architecture major emphasizes the cultivation of students' abilities to acquire new knowledge, new technologies, and practical skills. It is equipped with various on-campus practical facilities such as a studio, drawing office, course design room, model making room, computer-aided design training room, computer BIM training room, architectural virtual simulation teaching training room, green building technology training room, building material laboratory, engineering survey laboratory, and mechanics laboratory.

The Landscape Architecture major attaches great importance to the construction and planning of experimental and practical bases. Currently, there are 10 student practical projects successfully settled in the on-campus innovation and entrepreneurship practice base. Additionally, the major has established off-campus internship training bases with many well-known enterprises such as Guangzhou Planning Survey and Design Institute and Guangdong Provincial Architectural Design Institute, which well meet the needs of students for production internships and graduation internships.

Employment Prospects

Landscape Architecture graduates can find employment in various sectors such as landscape departments, urban and rural planning departments, urban construction departments, planning and design institutes, real estate enterprises, as well as scenic spots, nature reserves, and park green space management departments. In the context of increasingly prominent global environmental issues and the deepening of ecological civilization construction from a basic national policy to institutionalization, the demand for compound talents in Landscape Architecture is growing, indicating broad employment prospects.

Teaching Staff

The professional teaching team consists of individuals with a master's degree or above, accounting for 100% of the team. Among them, 70% are double-qualified teachers, including 3 professors and 7 associate professors (senior engineers). The teaching team includes outstanding teachers from Southern Guangdong, outstanding private teachers in Guangdong Province, excellent instructors, and outstanding young and middle-aged backbone teachers. They have won various awards such as the first, second, and third prizes, as well as the excellence award, in national and Guangdong provincial teacher teaching competitions. They have also guided students to win awards in authoritative provincial and above professional competitions multiple times.
