The Objective

The Course of English Language is designed to cultivate students with with global vision, comprehensive theorecical knowledge and applied skills of English language in the area of international trade business, interpreting and translation business, and teaching and develop students to be a professional practitioner of English language. The Course is articulated with that of West Sydney University where students could study 2 or 3 years in China and 2 or 1 years in Australia to acquire two Bachelor degrees from each of the two universities. 

Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities

Students who complete the Course will be able to  acquire the linguistic theories and applied skills in using English language and proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation of English language, understand theories and skills in international business and cross-border e-commerce, and obtain skills in computer software processing and office administration along with the applied skills of English language.  


The Course contains linguistics and grammar of English language, English history and culture, applied skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation and knowledge of international business including e-commerce. The Course is of 4-year duration. 

Core Units

Introduction to English, Phonetics, Grammar, Linguistics, Lexicology, Integrated English , Advanced English, English (listening), English(oral), English (extensive reading), Selected Readings (English newspapers and magazines), English (writing), The Society and Culture of English-speaking Countries,  History and Anthology, and English literature

For Major in English Translation: History and Anthology of American literature, Comparative Studies of English and Chinese, Cross-cultural Communication, Fundamentals of Translation, Research Paper Writing, English Variations and Translation, Science and Translation, English Interpretation, Business Translation

For Major in Business English: Introduction to e-Business, English for Business Negotiation, Business English Correspondence, Business English Documents, International Trade Practices, Cross-border e-Commerce, Business English Contracts and Law, 

For Major in English Teaching: Pedagogy, Psychology, English Teaching Methodology, English Teaching Materials for Primary and Secondary schools, Modern Educational Technology.


The course is delivered in lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practicum laboratories in the first 3 years on-campus and internship in the fourth year in companies off-campus or abroad.   


The Course  will be assessed by progressive learning tasks, final examination and graduation thesis/dissertation.


Bachelor of  Arts is awarded to those who meet the requirements of graduation .

Graduates could seek a career in occupations of Business Secretory, Customer Service, International Trade, English translation, Cross-border e-Commerce in offices or companies of foreign affairs, finance, culture, tourism.
