The Objective 

The Course of Engineering Costing (Certified Costing Engineer) is designed to cultivate students with theories and principles of costing civil engineering projects and develop students to be a certified engineering costing manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities 

Students who complete the Course is able to apply the theorectical and applied principles to cost engineering projects, provide comparative studies on various costing models, and advise the management on project budging and cost control options. 


The Course contains theories, methods and techniques of engineering costing and cost management, applied skills to use ‘engineering costing softwares’ to engage in design, drawing, construction, and bidding in the process of civil engineering and installation engineering, and integrate legal, financial and environmental factors into costing models. The Course is of 4-year duration.

Core Units

First Year: Introduction to Engineering Costing, Engineering Drawing, Building Mechanics, Building Materials, Engineering Construction Principles and Practices, Building Architecture, Architectural drawing and CAD 

Second Year: Civil Engineering Construction Technology, Civil Engineering Construction, Contract Management and Bidding, Engineering Survey, General Drawing, Construction Equipment, Engineering Economics, Municipal Engineering Budgeting, Construction Project Budgeting 

Third Year: Construction Regulations, Project Management, Construction Project Evaluation, Installation Project Budgeting, Bills of Supplies, Construction Engineering Technology and Measurements, Engineering Supervision, Construction Project Cost Management 

Fourth Year: Business Research, Production Practice, Graduation Practice, Graduation Thesis


The Course is delivered in lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practicum laboratories in the first 3 years on-campus and internship in the fourth year in companies off-campus or abroad.   


The Course will be assessed by progressive learning tasks, final examination and graduation thesis/dissertation.


Bachelor of Management will be awarded to those who meet the requirements of graduation.

Graduates could seek a career in the services industry of engineering costing in relation to various business areas of installation, civil engineering, municipal engineering, construction and decoration, real estate development and engineering project bidding in companies, research institutions or government departments.
