The Objective

The Course of Electrical Engineering and Automation is designed to cultivate students with theories, knowledge and skills in the area of electrical engineering and automation and develop students to be an engineer in electrical automation.

Knolwedge, Skills and Capabilities

Students who complete the Course will be able to master circuit CAD and the embedded system technology, to design and manufacture electronic products, to process manufacturing, intelligent control, technical service and production management, to apply computer-aided circuit-aided design, and to develop and apply the embedded system technology.


The Course contains power electronics technology, computer technology, electrical machinery technology, information and network control technology, electromechanical integration technology, the integration of strong with weak electric power,  hardware with software, electrical technology with electronic technology, components with systems, thus enabling students to acquire skills in electrical and electronics, system control, electrical control, power system automation, electrical automation devices and computer application technologies. The course is of 4-year duration.

Core Units

First Year: Advanced Mathematics, Computer Programming, Analog Electronics, Fundamentals of Circuit, Computer Application

Second Year: Motor and Power Drag, Power System Analysis, Automatic Control Principles, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Microprocessor Principles and Application

Third Year: Electronic Power Technology, Electrical Control Technology, Programmable Logic Controllers, Power System Relay Protection Theories, Factory Power Distribution and Lighting Technology, Power Engineering Technology, Electrical Measurement Technology, Electric Power Station Management, Electrical Safety Technology, Computer Control Technology

Fourth Year: Corporate Research, Production Practice, Graduation Practice, Graduation Thesis


The Course is delivered in lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practicum laboratories in the first 3 years on-campus and internship in the fourth year in companies off-campus or abroad.   


The Course will be assessed by progressive learning tasks, final examination and graduation thesis/dissertation.


Bachelor of Engineering will be awarded to those who meet the requirements of graduation.

Career Prospects

Graduates could seek a career in the power dispatching, operation and maintenance of power grids, the operation and maintenance of power plants and substations, the designing, manufacturing, operation and maintenance of electrical equipments, the research and development of electronic, electrical control and industrial control equipment products. They also could undertake jobs of the on-site construction, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of automated production systems.

Graduates who obtain the qualifications of the Registered Electrical Engineer could undertake jobs in the research and development of electronic, electrical, and power control equipment products; the planning, designing, supervision, bidding, and consulting of the electrical production process.

Graduates who are engaged in the electrical engineering and management could  undertake jobs in the operations and management of  electrical and power equipments, production process, quality inspection, and after-sales service, the maintenance, operation, management of power companies, and the planning and marketing of power equipment.
