The Objective

The Course is designed to cultivate students with sound theorectical knowledge and advanced practical skills in the area of product design. This Course is articulated with those of Edith Cowan University and West Sydney University, Australia, where students may study 2 years in China and 2 years  in Australia to acquire two Bachelor degrees of China and Australia.

Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities

Students who complete the course will be able to understand and appreciate the theories in product design, develop designing concepts and ideas,  construct product drawing and prototype, use software and hardware designing tools, convert product design for commercial purpose, and establish professional career in product design.


The Course contains the theories of product design, reports on latest developments in product design industry, skills to design and manufacture products from idea to concept, drawing, prototype, real-size product and final product for commercial purpose; and approaches to entrepreneurship and innovation.  The Course is of 4-year duration.


Core Units: Design Techniques, Design Procedures and Methods, Materials for Design, Product Shapeing, Product Engineering, 3D Product Imaging, Innovatve Product Design, Computer-aided Design, Model Production, Product Deesign, Panel furniture, Product Improvement design, Home Product Design, Flat Design, Product Interaction Design.

Practicum Units

On-campus Practicum:Product Structure and Dismantling, User Research, Computer-aided Design, Prototype Building, Special Product Design, Sculpture &3D Printing, Packaging Design. Enterprise Internship: Production Practice, Practicum and Graduation Design (Thesis).


The course is delivered in lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practicum laboratories in the first 3 years on-campus and internship in the fourth year in companies off-compus or abroad.   


The Unit will be assessed by progressive learning tasks, final examination and graduation thesis/dissertation.


Bachelor of  Arts is awarded to those who meet the requirements of graduation .

Career prospects

Students could seek career in areas of product design, industrial design, graphic and packaging design, and other visual designs in Research and Development Institutions, Product Design Companies, Advertising Companies,  New Media enterprises and institutions.
