Faculty of Business Administration

The Faculty of Business Administration offers 3 undergraduate programs majoring, Business Administration, Marketing and Logistics Management. The major of Logistics Management is the experimental major of applied comprehensive reform designated by the Guandgong Provincial Department of Education. The majors of Business Administration as well as Marketing are the model majors for  university-enterprise cooperation in education. In 2006, the major of Business Administration ranked as one of the three key disciplines for development in the University being funded by Guangdong Provincial Government and is listed as first-level key discipline for development funded by Guangdong Provincial Government for its applied professional education with distinctive features and prominent achievements in teaching and academic research.

The Faculty has an enrolment of over 1,700 students and 39 academic staff members , of whom there are 8 professors, associate professors and qualified professionals and there are over 71% of academic staff who have masters degrees. More than 20 Academic staff are qualified with senior occupational qualifications, such as marketing manager, e-commerce engineer and logistics manager. The number of academic staff with both academic and professional qualifications accounts for over 60 percent. More than 20 well-known outstanding professionals from enterprises are employed as part-time professors and student’s enterprise mentors. Some academics  have obtained a number of prizes that include National Model Teacher, Nan Yue Prominent Teacher and Guangdong Prominent Private Teacher, etc.

The Faculty adopts the student-centered learning model in teaching by reforming the teaching and learning methods and adopting a number of new teaching methods, such as “scenario simulation”, “business case analysis” and “project actuation”, etc. The on-campus practical training is introduced with simulated enterprise operational data being supported by the experiments with high degree of simulation. The off-campus practical training uses a model of joint guidance by enterprise mentors and academic mentors over students who in person participate in enterprise’s operation and management. Student professional qualities and application abilities are being remarkably improved by integrating teaching, learning and practicum. Academics have achieved fruitful results in teaching and and academic research activities, including 2 state-level prizes for teaching reforms, 5 provincial-level prizes of teaching reforms, 3 provincial-level prizes for teaching quality enhancement projects and over 10 University-level projects for teaching reforms.

The Faculty pays great attention to on-campus teaching experiments and off-campus practicums by equipping more than 50 sets of matched teaching simulation with profession softwares and more than 10 laboratories for business administration simulation, enterprise resource planning (ERP), modern logistics and supply chains, cross-border e-commerce and interdisciplinary comprehensive simulation. The Faculty has also developed close cooperative relationships with over 100 enterprises in Guangdong Province to jointly cultivate students. The Faculty has undertaken over 30 management consulting and business training sessions for enterprises.

The Faculty’s close connections with over 10 professional associations and their member companies have helped to effectively guarantee off-campus internship places and employment opportunities. Cooperative professional associations include Guangdong Industry and Trade Development and Promotion Association, Guangdong Chamber of Commerce of Construction and Decoration Materials, Guangdong Logistics Profession Association, Guangzhou Baiyun Supply Chain Management Association, Guangzhou Baiyun Electronic Commerce Association, Marketing Association of Guangdong, Foshan Purchasing Association, Foshan Cross-border E-commerce Association, Guangdong Leather Commerce Association and Guangdong Mobile Terminal Commerce Association. Cooperative enterprises include Wal-Mart, Jingdong Mall, Su-Ning electronics, Guangdong Linan Logistics Group, Chimelong International Hotel, Guangzhou Flower Lounge, PASO Commercial Group, Guangdong Suncoo Science and Technology Ltd., Guangzhou Ningshi Leather Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Taili Cross-border E-commerce, Nanling Automobile Commercial Company and SF Express, etc.

The Faculty has introduced actively the internationally available higher education resources through its efforts to cultivate students to be senior cross-cultural management personnel who have a good knowledge of international business practices and international operations models. It concentrates on its strengths of business management disciplines by cooperating with various universities from such  countries as U.S.A, Germany, Canada, The United Kingdom, Australiam, South Korea and Japan, etc.. It runs a 2+2 program of business administration in cooperation with Midwest State University in USA where students could study for 2 years in China and 2 years in USA to acquire two bachelor degrees. Many students have advanced their study abroad each year for degrees or study tours or exchange programs.

The Faculty has achieved considerable progress in academic and teaching research and resulted in a number of international academic exchanges. During the past five years, the Faculty’s staff have published more than 300 academic papers on journals at home and abroad and 17 papers on core journals at home, if which there are 12 papers published on EI. There are 6 monographs and 8 textbooks beingofficially published. Some academics have taken part in writing and editing textbooks.

The Faculty has completed one project supported by the National Social Science Foundation, 3 Guangdong Philosophy and Social Science Projects, 2 Guangzhou Social Science Fund Projects, 4 projects supported by Education Department of Guangdong Province. The discipline development has been boosted to a more refined and professional standard by the outcome of in-depth research on some significant economic and management issues in the region.

The Faculty has undertaken a series of popular science and technology innovation activities which include “Maker Market”, “Writing Contests”, Baiyun Cup for Simulation of Company Operations”, “Marketing Skills Competition”, “E-commerce Operational Competition”, “Logistics Planning Design Competition”, “Creative Tourism Design Competition” and “A Bite of Baiyun Event”.

The Faculty also runs many student club activities, such as “Hand in Hand Activity”, “Creative Freehand Sketching”, “I am Talent”, “Absolute Voice of Baiyun Idol”, “New Generation Cup Debate” and “Fancy Music and Dance”, etc., thus having provided a sound and diversified platform for learning in an inter-disciplinary way to promote students’ abilities of innovation and practical application.

Students’ learning style has been rigorously improved by the activities organized by student clubs and associations. The comprehensive qualities of a student is fully cultivated by “self-learning, self management and self-service”. Graduates have favorably strong employment competitiveness at labour market with graduate employment rate reaching over 97% during the past years.
