The Objective

The Course of Fashion Design and Engineering is designed to cultivate students with sound theorectical and professional knowledge as well as  advanced and practical skills in the area of fashion design and engineering. This Course is articulated with those of Edith Cowan University and West Sydney University, Australia, where students may study 2 years in China and 2 years  in Australia to acquire two Bachelor degrees of China and Australia.

Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities

Students who complete the Course will understand and appreciate the theories of fashion design, be able to be engaged in professional fashion development, design, trade, management, theoretical research and others fashion products, and have strong practical and creative abilities to meet the needs of industrial upgrading and transformation from manufacturing to creation in fashion industries.


The Course contains theories of fashion design and engineering, skills in designing, drawing, patterning, sewing, making, production, and marketing, opportunities to undertake practicum on campus  and internship in companies off campus. The Course is of 4-year duration.


Core Units: Chinese and Foreign Fashion History, Patterning and Sewing, Materials Selection and Preparation, Fashion Drawing Techniques, Fundamental of Fashion Design, Computer-aided Design, Fashion Assessories Design,  Plate-making of Garments, Special Fashion Design, Special Tailored Fashion Design, Fashion Branding, Fashion Comsumer Behaviour, Fashion Production Management, Fashion Marketing.

Practcum Units:  1) on-campus practicum:  Design, Manufacture and Assembly, Costume Design and Making,  Clothing Textural Research, Cowboy Cloth Design, Knitwear Design, Consumer Behaviour Survey, Costume Thematic Treatment, and Integration Skills in Fashion and Manufacturing. 2) Enterprise Practicum: Production (Professional) Practice, Graduation Internship and Graduation Design (Thesis).


The Course is delivered in lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practicum laboratories in the first 3 years on-campus and internship in the fourth year in companies off-compus or abroad.   


The Course will be assessed by progressive learning tasks, final examination and graduation thesis/dissertation.


Bachelor of  Arts is awarded to those who meet the requirements of graduation .

Career prospects

Graduates  could seek career in fashion product development, fashion design, fashion trade, fashion business management as well as teaching of fashion.
