The Japanese major was established in 2007 and has been a pilot program in Guangdong Province. It has trained nearly 3000 useful talents for society. This major belongs to the category of foreign language and literature, and its disciplinary foundations include foreign linguistics, foreign literature, translation studies, national and regional studies, comparative literature, and cross-cultural studies. And it intersects with other related disciplines and majors, with interdisciplinary characteristics, highlighting a composite nature to meet the needs of social development. Japanese language major students have the ability to apply foreign languages, appreciate literature, cross-cultural communication, critical thinking, as well as certain research, innovation, information technology application, cultural dissemination, self-learning, and practical abilities, in order to meet the needs of the rapid economic development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.

Graduates mainly focus on the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, radiating to East Asia, and engage in Japanese language intelligence services for positions in international trade, education, cross-cultural communication, foreign language live streaming, and other fields.

Based on the OBE (achievement oriented) education concept, the Japanese language curriculum is rich and varied, paying attention to consolidate the language foundation of students; promote learning, win awards, and strengthen students 'innovation ability; cooperate with well-known Japanese universities to promote students' overseas practice, highlight the advantages of international communication, and realize the cultivation of compound talents.

The teaching of this major shares the advanced teaching conditions of the School of Foreign Languages, equipped with various types of classrooms of different functions and advanced voice rooms with equipment. At present, there are 37 voice rooms, 3 translation training rooms, 3 language application ability rooms, 2 business skills training rooms and 2 foreign language multi-function intelligent training rooms. All laboratories have advanced teaching software and monitoring systems installed.

There are 20 full-time teachers, including 3 associate professors, 8 lecturers and 9 teaching assistants; 18 master students, 1 overseas study doctor and 1 foreign teacher. There are 3 corporate mentors. Among the teaching staff, 90% have a master's degree or above, 75% have an overseas background, and 68% have enterprise experience.
