Economic Statistics major is an important construction major in the "Financial and Economic Management Discipline Professional Group" of Guangdong Baiyun University. It is a basic major supporting first-level discipline economics and a characteristic undergraduate major of the School of Applied Economics. This major focuses on training economic statistics talents who master modern statistical analysis methods and attach equal importance to quantitative and qualitative analysis. After ten years of development, it has formed obvious advantages and characteristics in the aspects of teaching staff, professional development, discipline construction, teaching and research, personnel training and teaching reform. This major mainly studies and researches the principles of statistical analysis and the application of statistical analysis techniques in the field of national economy. Through theoretical study and professional practice, students can develop good literacy in statistics, mathematics and economics, master the commonly used methods of data statistics and analysis and the skills of using related software and have the ability to engage in statistical investigation, statistical information processing, management and consultation, economic analysis and prediction in government departments, economic management departments, enterprises and institutions.
Training objectives
Aiming at the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and radiating South China, this major aims to cultivate composite applied talents who are all-round developed in such areas of morality, intelligence, physique, beauty and labor, have national feeling, healthy personality, international vision, craftsmanship spirit and innovation ability, master the theoretical system of interdisciplinary knowledge such as economics, statistics, computer science and technology, and have certain economic thinking. The students can be proficient in mathematical statistics software, data collection and pre-processing, deep learning and other mathematical analysis tools, the ability to find problems, independently think and analyze, and solve practical problems in the field of data investigation and data analysis by relying on data science tools and good comprehensive quality, with strong abilities in statistical investigation, data analysis, big data collection and cleaning. Through the education in this programme, they can work in positions of statistical investigation, statistical information management and quantitative analysis in enterprises and institutions and economic management departments, as well as positions of risk analysis and scientific decision-making in insurance, finance, investment, social security and other fields.

Teaching conditions
1. Teaching equipment
Relying on the overall design plan of Guangdong Baiyun University to build a "digital" and "intelligent" campus, the major has fully functional teaching facilities and equipment, including statistics laboratory, to ensure students' classroom learning and after-school practice.
2. Laboratory
The Statistics Laboratory is one of the four laboratories of "Economic and Management Experiment Center" of Guangdong Baiyun University. Excel, SPSS, R, Python, Stata, SAS and other experimental statistical software has been fully installed. At present, it mainly undertakes the experimental teaching tasks of 5 experimental courses, such as "Time series analysis", "Data Processing Technology (SPSS)", "Comprehensive experiment of Statistics Specialty", "Comprehensive Practical training of Statistics", and "R Language Foundation". The proposed courses include "Python language Application", "Data visualization Analysis" and soon.
3. Practice base
The major of economic statistics attaches great importance to the construction and planning of experimental bases. At present, a total of two student practice projects have successfully settled in the innovation and entrepreneurship practice base of college students. And has established off-campus intern training bases with many well-known enterprises such as Guangzhou Tedi Intelligent Technology Co., LTD., Shenzhen Dimension Data Co., LTD., Nanhu CITS, etc., which better meet the needs of students' production practice and graduation practice during their senior year.

The positions corresponding to the students in this major mainly include data analysis positions for major banks, stock exchanges and insurance companies, which are engaged in risk analysis and control, credit market analysis, market research, data support and other work; For major Internet companies, consulting companies and specialized statistical groups and data analysis units, engaged in consulting research, data collection, analysis and processing, etc., to provide detailed data for the company's decision-making. At the same time, it can also pass the civil service examination and the recruitment of public institutions to enter the Bureau of Statistics and the public institutions directly under the statistical series to carry out statistical business and statistical teaching.
