Professional Overview

Integrated circuit design involves the frontier technology of microelectronics, electronic circuits, communications, computers, manufacturing technology and other fields. It is a multidisciplinary and high-tech intensive discipline. It belongs to the key core technology in the field of information technology, and is an important symbol of the comprehensive strength of the country. In order to meet the development needs of the integrated circuit industry in the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao" Greater Bay Area, our University is preparing to set up an undergraduate program of Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated Systems in 2020, with enrollment beginning in 2024.

This major is mainly aimed at integrated circuit design and manufacturing enterprises in the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao" Greater Bay Area. It implements the education and teaching philosophy of "student-centered" and OBE, adopts the "3+1" school-enterprise collaborative education model, and cultivates professional application-oriented technical talents in integrated circuit design and embedded system design in the fields of information home appliances, automotive electronics, control instruments, etc. To support and lead the economic and social development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.


Training objectives

This major is mainly aimed at the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and aims to cultivate all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, the United States and labor, with national feelings, healthy personality, international vision, craftsman spirit and innovation ability, and master the basic theories and professional skills of integrated circuit design and integrated system. With a certain ability in electronic circuit design, digital integrated circuit design, analog integrated circuit layout design and good comprehensive quality, proficient in using Calibre, Cadence and other professional software to input, design, simulation and verification of integrated circuits and layout, and able to work in related fields such as integrated circuit design and integrated system. Engaged in integrated circuit and electronic system engineering research, technology development, engineering application, system testing, marketing, technical services and management of the work of composite applied talents.


Knowledge and ability

1. Engineering knowledge: Be able to apply advanced mathematics, engineering mathematics and other mathematical knowledge, natural science knowledge of university physics, electronic information discipline foundation, professional foundation and professional knowledge to solve practical engineering problems in related fields such as integrated circuit design and integrated system.

2. Problem analysis ability: able to apply the knowledge of natural science and engineering science in advanced mathematics, engineering mathematics, university physics, electronic information and other aspects, as well as the basic and professional knowledge of integrated circuit design, to identify, express and analyze practical engineering problems in related fields

such as integrated circuit design and integrated system through literature research, and obtain effective conclusions.

3. Ability to design/develop solutions: fully understand the design requirements, design principles and design methods of integrated electronic systems and integrated circuits. Be able to design solutions to practical engineering problems in the field of integrated circuit design and integrated system, and can design systems, integrated circuits or processes to meet specific needs. Be able to reflect the innovative consciousness of new information technology and artificial intelligence + in the design process, and consider the impact of electronic systems and integrated circuits on social, health, safety, legal, cultural and environmental factors.

4, Research ability: Based on the scientific principles and scientific methods in the field of electronic information, using the professional knowledge and ability learned, the application of integrated circuit design and integrated system research system, including integrated development, analysis and interpretation of data is correct, and through information comprehensive research to obtain reasonable and effective integrated circuit design and integrated system research methods and conclusions.

5. Ability to use modern tools: to develop, select and use appropriate technologies, resources and modern information technology tools (commonly used office software, circuit CAD, EDA and other latest professional software) for practical engineering problems in the field of integrated circuit design and integrated system, including prediction and simulation of actual electronic systems, and to understand their respective advantages and disadvantages. Master the basic principles and operation methods of modern information technology professional instruments and equipment, and be able to choose and use instruments and equipment reasonably in comprehensive engineering.

6. Engineering and social ability: Be able to reasonably analyze and evaluate the impact of engineering practices and general engineering problem solutions in the field of IC design and integrated system on society, health, safety, law and culture based on engineering related background knowledge, and understand the possible consequences and responsibilities due to the implementation of solutions. 7. Environmental and sustainable development ability: able to understand and evaluate the impact of professional engineering practices on the environmental and social sustainable development of general engineering problems in the field of integrated circuit design and integrated systems, and have a good environmental awareness.

8. 11. Project Management ability: understand and master the basic principles of engineering management and economic decision-making methods, and be able to apply in a multidisciplinary environment. Have the basic ability of project management and cost awareness.

12. Lifelong learning ability: with independent learning and lifelong learning awareness; Have the basic knowledge of new engineering such as artificial intelligence, and the ability to continue to learn, adapt to development and innovate the theory and technology in the field of integrated circuit design.

This major connects with the industries of the Greater Bay Area, follows the OBE concept of "student-centered, output-oriented and continuous improvement", and closely follows the needs of the industry to build talent training programs and curriculum systems, and cooperate with the government, schools and enterprises in training.

This major connects with the semiconductor and integrated circuit industry cluster of Guangdong Province, takes integrated circuit application and layout design as the starting point, and cultivates application-oriented talents through school-enterprise cooperation.

Teaching conditions

Based on the existing laboratory of the Department of Engineering and the new generation of electronic technology professional group laboratory under construction, together with the proposed integrated circuit design, testing, process simulation, application development and other laboratories, the major can meet the needs of the students of this major in the practical teaching of basic courses, specialized courses, course design and other courses. In addition, the major has also built 6 practice bases with integrated circuit related enterprises in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which are used for students' enterprise practice.


Employment prospects

The application of integrated circuit design covers the integration and development of computer, communication, consumer electronics and other electronic systems. The graduates of this major will have a strong adaptability to work and a wide range of employment. They can be engaged in the design, manufacturing, packaging and testing of integrated circuits in information home appliances, automotive electronics, control instruments, biological electronics and other fields, and have good employment and development prospects.


Teaching staff

This major has a total of 12 teachers, including 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 3 doctors, and 4 teachers with engineering background, and has achieved good results and rich experience in the reform of application-oriented talent training mode. At the sametime, 6 enterprise engineers have been hired as enterprise mentors to participate in practical teaching such as internship and graduation design.
