The Objective

The Course of Visual Communications Design (Advertising) is designed to cultivate students with sound theorectical and professional knowledge and advanced practical skills in the area of advertising. This Course is articulated with those of Edith Cowan University and West Sydney University, Australia, where students may study 2 years in China and 2 years  in Australia to acquire two Bachelor degrees of China and Australia.

Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities

Students who complete the Course will be able to acquire theorective knowledge and applied skills in relation to advertising creativity responding to the development needs of modern advertising industry, to produce cultural publishing, printing and packaging, to undertake Internet marketing and e-commerce, and to be able to engage in advertising planning and design, printing science and packaging design, network or electronic commerce, art design, enterprise image and branding, advertising media planning and marketing, advertising operational management.

Core Units: Photoshop, Commercial Photography, Graphic Design, Advertising Design, Corporate Image Planning and Branding, Advertising for Marketing, Layout Design, Illustration Design, Commercial Printing and Publishing, Packaging Design, Web Visual Design, Flash Advertising, Film Advertising, E-commerce Design,  Special Design.

Practicum Units: 1) On-campus Practicum: Visual Image Training, Digital Drawing, TV Advertising Production, Internet Advertising, Graphic Advertising,  Publishing and Printing, VI Design, Advertising. 2) Enterprise Internship: Production (Professional) Practice,  Graduation Project (Thesis).

Content

The Course contains theories of environmental design in relation to interior design, skills in sketching, drawing, modelling, prototyping, materials selection and preparation, construction, costing and marketing, production and management, and regulations on interior design.  The Course is of 4-year duration.

Delivery

The course is delivered in lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practicum laboratories in the first 3 years on-campus and internship in the fourth year in companies off-campus or abroad.   

Assessments

The Course  will be assessed by progressive learning tasks, final examination and graduation thesis/dissertation.

Award

Bachelor of  Arts is awarded to those who meet the requirements of graduation .

Career Prospects

Graduates could seek career in industries and companies in relation to advertising planning and design, commercial printing design, product packaging design, branding and image design, Web or App interactive design, business photography, e-commerce for art design, marketing and media planning,  operational management of advertising. They can also engage in teaching of advertising in vocational colleges.
