Faculty of Mega Data and Computer Science

The Faculty of Mega Data and Computer Science offers five undergraduate programs majoring in Data Science and Mega Data Technology, Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Internet Engineering, and Information System  Management.

In 2006, the University becomes one of the first pilot colleges and universities of “the China Mega Data Project with One Hundred Universities for Innovative Integration of Production and Education” supported by the Ministry of Education. The University is qualified on the list of one of the 100 universities.

The Faculty is composed of Computer Engineering Department, Software Engineering Department and Applied Technology Department and has an enrolment of more than 800 students and has graduated over the years more than 5,000 professionals being specialised in computer and IT in Guangdong Province.

The Faculty has 35 academic staff members, of whom there are 13 professors, associate professors and three doctorates, there are over 90% of academic staff with masters degrees. The Faculty pays attention to academic development training. By adopting the policies of university-enterprise cooperation for two-way win-win benefits and the strategy of “Going out, Coming in”, the Faculty has trained and has established a high quality faculty of staff with professional qualifications, academic qualifications and appropriate age structure. 

The Faculty adheres to the student-centered curriculum model by vigorously probing and constructing modern professional education systems and by actively applying university-enterprise cooperation in joint education of students and conducts in-depth cooperation with enterprises by building on-campus and off-campus innovative practicum platforms and by training students in accordance with enterprise’s needs to connect curricula with job positions as well as students’ needs for  comprehensive competence and adaptive career capacity.

The Faculty optimizes its operations in course offerings, practicum teaching, management and security systems and focuses its innovative teaching on students’ innovative thinking, innovation ability, independent study and problem-solving ability by means of project-based practicum, curriculum design, scientific and technological activities and contests, and graduation projects.

The Faculty has 30 computer teaching centers, student science and technology innovation centers and college student workshops that are equipped with 1,300 computers. The total value of teaching and research facilities exceeds 30 million RMB.

In order to guarantee sufficient enterprise practicum programs for students, the Faculty actively expands and jointly builds its partnership with with enterprise to establish off-campus practicum bases, including Chinasoft International Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Yueqian Communication Technology Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Fei Yue Ao Communications Technology Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Yuan Ku Technology Co., Ltd., Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Bo Chuang Technology Co., Ltd. and  Beijing Ling Yang Technology Co., Ltd.. In total, the Faculty has sound cooperative relations with more than 60 companies in the computer and IT industry and Internet-related industry in the Pearl River Delta Region, thus ensuring off-campus enterprise practicum places and employment opportunities.

During the past three years, the Faculty has undertaken 11 academic and teaching  research projects funded by the Ministry of Education or Guangdong Provincial Government and more than 20 academic and teaching research projects suported by the University. More than 60 academic papers are published on core journals and international conferences at home and abroad, among which 7 are published on EI. More than 10 monographs and textbooks are officially published. The Faculty has completed 5 horizontal projects being financed by the companies, 2 state-level patents and 5 software copyrights. Its students have completed 40 projects of competition at national and provincial levels with guidance of academic staff members.

The Faculty attaches great importance to the development of students’ integrated and coordinated competence, knowledge, abilities and qualities, thus resulting in very good outcome from a variety of state-level and provincial-level science and technology competitions as well as the contests held by the University during thge annual science and technology festivals. Students have won over the past three years one state-level first-place award, 4 second-place awards, 5 third-place awards, 8 provincial-level second-place awards and 20 third-place awards in contests of computer, software, magedata, Internet and flush technology. They also have won one second-place award and 5 third-place awards in Challenge Cup Extra-Curricular Academic Technology Competition. The Faculty always sets for itself as important priority to provide satisfying employment opportunities to graduates. By providing all-round ability-based education and widening employment channels, the Faculty has achieved both high graduate employment rates and high degree of employers satisfaction with an graduate employment rate remaining at 98.5% or above during the past three years.
