International Economics and Trade

The Objective

The Course of International Economics and Trade is designed to cultivate students with theories and practices, knowledge and skills, standards and regulations in the area of international economics and trade and develop students to be a professional manager in international trade. The Course is a duble-bachelor degree program which is articulated with that of Edith Cowen University, Australia. Students could study for 3 years in China and 1.5 years in Australia and will be able to be awarded with two Bachelor degrees. 

Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities

Students who complete the Course is able to manage business in international trade in line with international trade theories, to be familiar with international trade standards and practices of China and Australia, to master Chinese and English languages, and have access to professional qualifications of relevant international trade associations in China and Australia. 

Content

The Course contains theories and practices, ethics and standards, skills and visions, international trade rules and multinational cultures in international economics and trade. The Course is of 4-year duration in China including 1.5 years in Australia.

Core Units

The First Stage (Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3):

10 Units of General Education: English 1, English 2, Physical Education and Sports, Ethics and Law, Modern Chinese History, Mathematics, Culture and Philosophy, Government Policies, Information Technology, Fundamentals of Marxism

10 Units of Disciplinary Education:  English 3, English 4, Management, Principles of Accounting, Financial Management, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Cross-Cultural Communication, Marketing, and Information Systems Management 

10 Units of Specialised Education: English 5, English 6, Fundamentals of E-Commerce, International Business Law, Business Negeotiation, International Trade Theories, Logics and Supply chain, International Logics, International Settlement, Import and Export Documentation and Customs Declaration 

Second Stage (Year 4 and Year 5):

Students who meet the entry requirements of Edith Cowan University will take 1.5 years of advanced study on 12 units as required in Australia. Students who do not meet the entry requirements will be transferred to the same domestic program and will be required to complete the rest of study in the fourth year.   

Delivery

The Course is delivered in lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practicum laboratories in the first 3 years on-campus and the study abroad programs in the fourth year in Edith Cowan University, Australia or the the fourth-year program in China.    

Assessments

The Course will be assessed by progressive learning tasks, final examination and graduation thesis/dissertation as required by both Guangdong Baiyun University and Edith Cowan University.

Award

Bachelor of Economics will be awarded to those who meet the requirements of graduation in China as well as Bachelor of Business in Australia. The Australian Bachelor of Business degree could be accredited by the Professional Body in Australia.

Career prospects

Graduates could seek a career as a professional trader in the import and export business of foreign trade companies or a self-employed to run import and export business or an employee in foreign-funded enterprises or an official  in customs offices or a broker for international trade. Graduates could seek an advanced study for higher degree programs or work abroad in Australia.
